Governance for microfinance: the Cooperative Benchmark?

In microfinance, corporate governance is often stressed both as a major risk and as a field where improvements are required. In practice, these "calls for action" are however rarely developed and, like many other sectors, microfinance lacks clear frameworks for analysing how corporate governance is implemented and how it could be improved.

Within the framework of the International Year of Cooperatives, Marc Labie will be addressing this issue through the example of Savings and Credit Cooperatives. Key players in the microfinance field, these organizations are often criticized for their governance structure.

Organised by ADA in partnership with the Banque de Luxembourg and with the support of the Luxembourg Cooperation in order to raise public awareness about the microfinance field in Luxembourg, "Midi de la microfinance" conferences provide an opportunity to focus on a specific topical theme affecting the sector.
